Short Bio

I am not your typical technology geek. When I get the chance, I enjoy basketball, climb mountains, and surfing. Although, I am an information thirsty freak who tries to stay on top of the latest trends in education technology and live to inspire students. In the classroom, I have high energy and connect with the students by building professional rapport. In my free time, I am involved with my business, Modern Mango Studios, where I provide professional photography, graphic design, and web publishing.

FAMILY

I married an awesome island girl from Hawaii in 2003 and together we explore, live, and teach around the world in diverse cultures. Malia has her Master’s in English education and teaches high school at the university level. We enjoy traveling, surfing, teaching, DDR on the Wii, and playing together with our daughter, Mika.

LOCATION

Born in Ohio, raised on a farm in Wisconsin, spent my high school years in Dallas, Texas, went to college in Virginia, married and moved to Hawaii, moved overseas to teach in Bahrain, Taiwan, and Thailand, then back to Hawaii, and now Korea. I am done traveling (almost 40 countries & 50 states).

With experience and education in both education and web design, I know the appropriate ingredients to create an effective blog to advertise yourself as a teacher, promote your class online, and document your teaching strategies.

School Websites
With a marketing degree, I believe that a school’s website is the most important marketing tool and is the face for the school. I focus a majority of the effort in the planning process before redesigning an attractive, yet easy to navigate school site that is web 2.0 compliant, SEO optimization, and fierce security ability.

Print Media
A school’s printed media is another direct representation of the school with marketing implications. As a graphic designer, I offer poster, catalog, advertisement, and yearbook designs.

Sports Photography
Photographing an intense action packed game is an art and talent. As a six-sport varsity player and two-sport varsity coach, I have full knowledge of the game and can anticipate the game to be at the right place at the right time. I have been asked to photograph state tournaments with my photos published after the game. I also offer individual and team photos.
