Software

I went to an educational technology conference over spring break and attended two seminars by a program developer from Microsoft. One of the things he showed us was advanced features in OneNote and the capabilities it has specifically for students who use laptops in the classroom. I also saw a video  with a brief overview and student collaboration features. The best feature was the freedom it gives students to take notes in an open environment on their laptop with the ability to easily insert pictures, video, sound, and interactive media.

Although OneNote is a really good tool, I see it more ideal more for college students since a bulk of their classroom time is taking notes during lectures. In high school, the classroom should be more interactive with activities and short lectures. Although, if the teacher is well versed in OneNote and uses it effectively to integrate it into the lessons, then OneNote would be a good option in high school. In the end, I don't think I would spend the money to purchase it because there are comparable open source alternatives.
