I am a member and subscriber of The International Educator and received an e-mail from TIE Online yesterday:
“From speaking with many international school heads and recruitment agencies in February, it is clear that the market has changed significantly from last year. Most schools have fewer vacancies, as enrollment projections are dropping, and worried staff are staying on. In general, the recruiting fairs have experienced 20% fewer openings, and have had 20% more job seekers at their fairs. The increase in candidates for international positions is largely due to the lay-offs anticipated in many states in the USA, which impact the younger, more mobile teachers the most.”

Those percentages alarmed me! That means many teachers will not have jobs next year. I never thought the competition to secure a teaching job would get this cutthroat. Although, this will cause more teachers to increase their portfolios and resumes though teacher development workshops and college courses. Since schools are trimming their budgets, they are finding more ways to be efficient with their teachers. As teachers, we need to increase our proficiently levels and become more diverse.

If you don’t have the money or time to take college courses, check out the HP Learning Center, which offers free online classes in Graphic arts, software, IT management, web design, computers, networking, business, and more.
