ERIC (Education Resource Information Center) published research results showing that 96% students were more likely to engage in a class that implements real-world projects. This concept is a driving force in my educational philosophy and dissertation. One of my favorite classes I have taught was marketing because our class performed many of the marketing projects at the school and I treated my students like professional businessmen and women. The class met in the computer lab and we used Adobe Photoshop, Illustrator, Office, Web Applications as tools to accomplish our marketing tasks. Here are some examples of the projects we did:

-To advertise the athletic teams and games I created an athletics website and the students helped me manage and update it weekly

-We had marketing competitions to see who could advertise games at school most effectively and bring in the most fans

-Created design layouts for the school’s drama productions and brought in advertisements to help fund the programs

-Advertised, collected, and sold business ads for the yearbook; we also designed the business ads for companies who asked us

-Designed promotional posters for the school: student council events, community service opportunities, games, school updates, etc.

-Made promotional videos for school assembly announcements (e.g. announcements, event summaries, games)

-Created senior graduation announcements and senior pictures

-As a free service to the teachers and staff, we offered to make wedding invitations and birth announcement

-Designed new logos for the school, athletic teams, student activity groups, and school bands

-We had access to people who could print shirts at a low price so we designed and printed school shirts that we sold at fundraisers and created many types of athletic team shirts and jerseys
